A Little Loving

ree

This is us. I met my husband Matthew about 15 years ago at a Native American pow wow. I was there with my son and he was there with a friend. I was waiting on line for food when he attempted to say hello. He recognized that I was in white and saw my elekes, so he decided that it would be appropriate to formally "greet" me with Se Alafia Ni which translates to: May Peace Be Unto You in Yoruba. It was a sweet gesture. I hadn’t been publicly recognized as being a priest, but he saw me. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear what he said! I think he tried a couple of times and eventually thought I was ignoring him and said: " okay" (With a tinge of annoyance ). THAT I heard! I looked up and saw his face. His beautiful face. We began talking and everything just kind of disappeared into the background. It didn't take long before I realized that I had found someone very special. We talked about our lives, religion, careers, and goals to change the world. He was a professional musician, a drummer, and percussionist. I was a teacher, baker, and a mom. We were both teaching kids with special needs at the time, and coincidentally we taught in the same district! To date our most imperative connection, is our spiritual/ religious beliefs. It was what brought us together, and it is the tie that binds us to this day.

I can’t tell you what a blessing my husband has been to my life. He has always been able to see and accept me for who I am. I am so grateful for his love, support, and adoration. He is the love of my life and I can't imagine life without him and I glad that I don't have to.
